Welcome to the London
Writer Circle
The London Writer Circle - was 'christened' at Foyle's Bookshop in 1924.
During the difficult days of WW2 the members met in their own homes in
order to keep the spirit of the circle alive. Reforming in 1945, it has
continued since then to offer all writers friendly advice and constructive
criticism at various London venues.
HOW TO FIND US NOW.
We meet on the last Wednesday of each month (not August or December) at
the Royal Festival Hall on the South Bank (nearest underground stations
Waterloo or Embankment). We gather on Level 5 at 11am. If you cannot find
us please ask at the Enquiry Desk in the Poetry Library - also on Level
5 - which opens at 11am.
Meetings are free. We are a small informal group meeting to discuss our
work. For your first attendance you might like to bring along and read
out a short piece of something that you are working on and intend for
publication. If you would just like to observe at this meeting that is
also fine. We always encourage newcomers to let us know what kind of writing
interests them, what (if anything) they have had published, and what their
writing ambitions are.
Please note: we don't cover plays, song lyrics or poetry. Printed out
(rather than handwritten) work works best, and the maximum length for
reading is 2,500 words. Work will always be judged truthfully and constructively
on whether it works for the market(s) or genre for which it is intended.
Our aim is to encourage and support each other in finding suitable markets
for our work, and to share useful information on these.
We look forward to meeting you.
